It's hard to choose so few images from a body of work that is so vast and endlessly inspiring. I remember seeing We Two Boys Clinging at the National Portrait Gallery one day when I should have been at school and thinking it was just the best most beautiful thing I'd ever seen. I don't know why then, today it speaks less to me.
It was probably one of Hockney's Pools that I saw first, in the big Phaidon Art Book at home or the poster print on the art dept wall at high school. But it was his scratchy line drawings in ink and crayon, and soft pencil sketches that I first 'used'. In some dusty folder somewhere I have a couple of "in the style of" drawings of me from a GCSE class.
Today I'm really interested in Hockney's prints and also have only just discovered his stage design work. Here are some prints for now.
etchings from the rakes progess with aquatint
2 colour lithograph
etching and aquatint from the blue guitar
